What Watches the Personality?

I am not my personality. And neither are you.

The personality can be observed — we can watch it operate in real time.

What watches the personality?

Sit with that.

This capacity is in all of us. Yet in sessions with thousands of people, I have met very few who use it. Almost all are identified as their personality — their beliefs, stories, narratives, emotions. The mind pulls, and they are identified.

We are trapped in a jail built from our own perceptions — until something in us steps back and watches.

Castaneda's don Juan said it plainly: "Every one of us does that. We carry on an internal talk... In fact we maintain our world with our internal talk. The world is such-and-such or so-and-so only because we tell ourselves that that is the way it is. If we stop telling ourselves that the world is so-and-so, the world will stop being so-and-so."

Stop describing the world, and reality starts to show itself.
